Joe Williams kicks butt! again - October 5, 2006

My good friend guitarist Joe "Pretty Boy" Williams from Albuquerque NM, recently won first prize at the New England Conservatory’s Boston GuitarFest Competition. I guess that makes about 10 prizes now. It's such a pleasure when such a great guy do well. He's currently on tour, so if he comes your way, do not miss it!

Carlos Perez, great guitarist from Chile, just released the first of a series of CDs dedicated to the music of Antonio Lauro.

Composer Father Jose Maria Blanch's music is featured in a release due August featuring the composer at the piano, soprano Cecilia Letner, and violinist Ellen Chavez de Leitner. They'll be traveling to Spain soon to promote the recording.

Triple guitar houseconcert - February 23, 2006

On Sunday March 26, I'll be performing in a triple bill with Rico Stover and Daniel Weston. Rico is the schollar who edited all the Barrios publications, and Daniel is a fine classical player with a sensitive Spanish touch. Details in the calendar.

New Guitar Recital Series - December 29, 2005

The Los Alamos Guitar Council will be offering a new guitar recital series in 2006, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Greg Schneider.
The venue is the Fuller Lodge.
Greg is a fine guitarist, with whom I played The Beggar's Opera for the Santa Fe Opera, and I hope he'll be playing there soon.

I've recently heard from two cool jazz musicians I had not heard from in years: Conrado Paulino, with whom I studied in the mid 80s ( and Joe Weinberg, who studied with me at the University of Arizona in the mid-90s. Conrado's in Sao Paulo, Joe's in Boston. Check them out!

Thank you all who bought our CD at CDBABY.COM recently. Combined sales of all the musicians enrolled in the effort, plus the donation of CDBABY's handling fees, amounted to more than $200.000.00 to the Red Cross's relief effort.

Back from the GFA - October 29, 2005

Steve Aron put toghether the best GFA in years. The level of playing was tremendous, and the concerts were varied and outstanding. Jerome Ducharme won the competition. I'll be trying to bring him, Dominic Frasca, and Duo46 to play in Santa Fe this year.

Phenomenal guitarists Michael Lich, Benjamin Silva, and Joseph V. Williams II celebrate the birthday of their favorite guitarist/composer, Tunisian/French Roland Dyens, playing a lot of his music on his birthday, October 19, 8PM at GiG, 1808 Second Street, Santa Fe, as part of Classical Wednesdays. A special thanks to Joe Williams, who has been very generous with his time helping me prepare for the GFA.
