D'Addario beta test - March 8, 2017

i just put on a set of new D'Addario trebles that are still in beta test phase. The gages seem consistent with the pro arte normal tension, but they feel lighter. Let's see how they work. I'll post an update soon.

Update1: I've gone through three sets. There first one felt very much like the usual Pro Arte trebles to me. Pretty good. The second set was white nylon, and sounded very good, with great sustain and good tone./ The third set is black nylon. I'm a bit frustrated with the tuning on this one, so the jury is still out.

Update: the third set turned out pretty bad. different parts of the third string could not agree on at what frequency they were vibrating...

Concert postponed! - March 11, 2016

Historical buildings require special maintenance, and the Chapel at San Miguel Mission is no different. I learned today that the floor of the altar, our stage area, was refinished, and the process was delayed until last night. The finish on the floor is still not dry, and holding the concert there in this condition would spoil the new finish if we do not wait until it is cured. There was the suggestion of my performing in socks, that would be fine with me, but I was advised that there were still “vapors” from the work. So I visited the chapel today to see exactly what the situation was, and the smell was still very strong, despite the doors being open. For an evening concert, we would close the doors because of noise and cold, so the smell could be quite uncomfortable, and the materials used, although fine once totally dry, do have chemicals that might cause some bad reactions to some people.

So, unfortunately, we are having to reschedule the concert to the next available date, April 9th. If you have purchased advance tickets, they will be honored. In case the new date does not work for you, please let me know and you will receive a full refund.
